Officer Ken Welsch was honored at the September 17th Round Lake Park Village Board Meeting for 5 years of service with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
Officer Welch was instrumental in a number of high profile Homicide Investigations during his assignment with this elite unit.
Chief Filenko was the Commander of the Task Force when Officer Welsch was appointed as a detective. “Ken was a detective that brought over 25 years of police service to the Task Force. He played a key role in the arrest and prosecution of William “Billy” Varner, who brutally murdered his wife and mother several years ago in Antioch, Illinois.
Officer Welsch joined a team of Detectives that flew to North Dakota where Varner had been arrested. “His skills as an interviewer payed off when Varner confessed to the murders and led detectives to the weapon that was used in the slayings.”
Congratulations Officer Welsch!
