February 19th was my final day as a police officer as I move on to retirement.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the mayors I’ve served under, the late Mayor Ila Bauer, Mayor Jean McCue, Mayor Linda Lucassen and our current Village Board, for your trust and support in allowing me to serve as a Round Lake Park Police officer for the past 21 years. I want to also thank my fellow coworkers for their support and dedication to the overall mission of the Village Round Lake Park.
Most of all, I would like to commend the men and women of the Round Lake Park Police Department for their professionalism and unwavering dedication to duty. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve and protect the citizens of Round Lake Park.
I remember a speech from General MacArthur that proclaimed most proudly that “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away.” And like the Old Soldier of that ballad, this Police Officer will now close my Police career and just fade away, an old Police Officer who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.
Sincerely,
Chief George Filenko
