While we share the important responsibility to encourage and remind each other about safety precautions or newly implemented community restrictions, how we interact and communicate with our neighbors is equally important. We’re in this together, and more than ever, the neighborhoods we thrive in should feel kind and welcoming, even from a safe distance.
And as a reminder, your [INSERT AGENCY NAME] is taking every measure to ensure neighbors are adhering to the rules of today’s “new normal.” To that end, we ask all neighbors to adopt the below reminders as part of your day-to-day interactions:
-If you see neighbors in need of guidance or suggestions, please guide or offer suggestions kindly. Be mindful of your tone.
-Practice patience. We’re all trying our best to adjust.
-Include a smile. Everyone could use more smiles during these times.
-If a neighbor shares their concerns with you (maybe they need more space in a shared area), find flexibility and accommodate.
-Educate rather than reprimand. For example, if you see a neighbor wearing their face-mask incorrectly and you feel strongly about correcting them, take this moment to educate – kindly.
Again, we’re in this together and doing our best to adjust. And even though social distancing causes limitations, take many moments this weekend and in the days to come to offer a needed smile to the essential workers and neighbors you (safely) cross paths with.
