Tobacco 21 Law

Tobacco 21 law change: Bans the sale of tobacco products, vaping products, and liquid nicotine products to anyone younger than 21.  Removes illegal “possession” laws for underage people seen with the aforementioned products and scraps a provision that would require a minor and guardian to attend a smoking prevention class. Ticket Fines Increase July 1st

Effective July 1st minor traffic tickets issued to drivers will rise from $120 and $140 to $164 for a guilty conviction if paid prior to a court date. Tickets for texting or using a cell phone while driving will also be $164. Local ordinance violations are no longer an option. Drivers should note that, effective July 1, cell phone and texting-related tickets will also be considered moving violations, even if the driver is using a phone at a stop sign or red light. U.S. Marshals Report New Scam

Southern Illinois is being hit with a new phone scam. According to the Marshals’ Southern District office there is a scam circulating in which a phone call comes in appearing to be a local number and the caller on the other end pretends to be from the Marshal Service. The Marshal’s are receiving hundreds of calls at offices nationwide from people asking us why the U.S. Marshals are seeking money from them. These calls are scams.
