Man with a knife subdued

BY MICK ZAWISLAK (MZAWISLAK@DAILYHERALD.COM) An encounter Friday afternoon with a suicidal man who approached police in Round Lake Park with a knife and asked to be shot was defused without injury. Police were called about 3 p.m. to 400 block of Forest Glenn Drive. The man’s roommate had alerted authorities that man was acting irrationally, according to Chief George Filenko. RLPPD Awarded Bullet Proof Vest Grant

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) informed our agency that we will receive an award under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) solicitation. Officer Ken Welsch was honored at the September 17th Round Lake Park Village Board Meeting for 5 years of service with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
