I recently noted an increase in the Pigeon Drop Scam in some communities on the north shore and N/W suburban communities. A Pigeon Drop is generally finding a large quantity of currency or something of value and convincing the potential victim they can share in the money. Spring through fall is a prime time for “Seal Coat Scams” Someone knocks on your door unannounced and offers to sealcoat your asphalt driveway on the spot. He tells you about the great deal you’ll get. Once you give him your money, he fails to deliver. U.S. Marshals Report New Scam
Southern Illinois is being hit with a new phone scam. According to the Marshals’ Southern District office there is a scam circulating in which a phone call comes in appearing to be a local number and the caller on the other end pretends to be from the Marshal Service. The Marshal’s are receiving hundreds of calls at offices nationwide from people asking us why the U.S. Marshals are seeking money from them. These calls are scams.
